How to Keep a Baby Awake During Feeding
Ensuring that babies have enough food is essential for their growth and development, but sometimes when it comes to feeding time, babies can get drowsy. Here are a few tips to help keep your little one alert during mealtime:
Swaddle
Swaddling can help calm them down and make them more alert before feeding. If they’re trying to fall asleep, this can help them stay awake.
Stimulation
Try engaging your baby before feeding with a stimulating activity such as a brief massage or stimulating their sense of sight and sound.
Feeding in Bright Light
It may seem counter-intuitive, but darkness makes babies tired and therefore sleepy. Make sure the room you’re feeding in is bright, at least moderately lit.
Activity During Feeding
You can also help keep your baby alert during feeding by engaging them with colorful toys or making funny faces. This can help distract them from drifting off as they feed.
Breaks During Feeding
Take regular breaks during feedings, particularly if your baby is getting drowsy. This will give them an opportunity to rest, but also help wake them up again.
Interact After Feeding
You can also try interacting with your baby after they finish feeding. This can help keep them awake and alert until they’re ready to go to sleep.
Keeping your baby awake during feeding can be challenging, but with a few simple tips, you can help ensure your little one is getting enough nutrition.
Good Luck Mom and Dad!
