Baby Head Support for Car Seats

Head support for car seat will help keep your baby’s neck and head secure and comfortable during car trips. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to make your own head support for car seat:

Step 1: Collect Materials

You will need:

    • 2 pieces of soft fabric or quilted material

    • 1″ foam padding

    • Cotton batting

    • 1 yard of ¼” elastic

    • Scissors

    • Measuring tape

    • Sewing machine and thread

Step 2: Measure and Cut

Measure the circumference of your baby’s head and mark the measurement on your fabric. Next, add an extra 1″ to this measurement and use a ruler to draw a rectangle shape on the fabric that is twice the circumference measurement in length and half of the circumference measurement plus 1″ in width. Cut out two pieces of the rectangle shape from the fabric.

Using the measurement of the circumference of the baby’s head, cut two strips of foam padding and two strips of batting that are the same length as the circumference measurement and half of the circumference measurement plus 1″ in width.

Step 3: Sew the Head Support

Place the two fabric pieces together, wrong sides facing out, and pin the pieces together. Sew the side and bottom seams to join the pieces together.

Place the batting and foam padding strips between the two layers of fabric. Wrap the batting and foam padding snugly around the head support, making sure that the batting and foam padding is even and secure. Sew the top of the head support to hold the batting and foam padding in place.

Step 4: Add Elastic and Final Touches

Cut one piece of elastic, approximately 1 yard long. Sew the elastic to the head support, looping the elastic around the head support and making sure that the elastic is securely in place.

Finally, finish off the head support by topstitching along the seam.

Step 5: Test the Head Support

Test the head support on your baby’s car seat to make sure that it fits securely, allowing your baby’s head to be well supported during your car rides.

Congratulations! You have now successfully made a baby head support for a car seat.
