When Can You Feel Baby Moving?
Having a baby is one of the most amazing and thrilling experiences of life. As your baby grows inside the womb, you may start to feel its movements – often called “quickening” – during the second trimester.
Baby Movement during the Second Trimester
Typically, you will start to feel your baby move sometime during the second trimester. Here are some common signs of movement:
- Flutters: During the second trimester, your baby’s kicks and punches may be felt as gentle flutters in the tummy.
- Rolls: Starting in the third trimester, you will start to feel some big movements as your baby turns, stretches, and kicks.
- Hiccups: You may feel regular vibrations as the baby hiccups inside the womb.
Variations in Movement Sensations
The baby’s movements will feel different to everyone. Some women experience strong kicks and jabbing sensations, while others may feel gentle strokes or vibrating sensations.
When to Contact Your Doctor
Although the second trimester is typically when you can first feel your baby moving, the exact time varies from woman to woman. If you haven’t felt any movement by the end of the second trimester, or if there’s a sudden decrease in movement, it’s important to contact your healthcare provider.
Remember, your baby’s movements are one of the best indicators of its health and wellbeing. It’s important to be aware of any changes and contact your doctor as soon as possible.
